I am a(n)…

I’m never happier then when I’m editing a piece of written work for grammar, style, structure and content. I’ve been doing it since 2013.

I enjoy digging deep into a subject and looking at it from all angles. I look at data and talk to the experts.

I am driven by deadlines and checklists. When I know my work affects a colleague’s process, I work with them for success.

I do my best work when I’m on the same page with my colleagues, so I strive for clear lines of communication.

About Jen

Welcome to my website! Here’s a little bit more about me:

I have a deep curiosity and an appetite for going down intellectual rabbit holes.

I’ve been reporting and editing part time since 2013 and full time since 2017. I’m currently the editor at Community Impact Newspaper’s Katy, Texas, edition, a 40-page monthly magazine with a circulation of more than 108,000. I’ve held this position since October 2018 and oversee a reporter and graphic designer.

Previously, I worked as the web producer for Houston Business Journal. At the Columbia Missourian newspaper, I held a variety of positions: copy editor, community outreach and engagement reporter, general assignment reporter and print designer. I also spent a few months writing for PolitiFact’s Missouri bureau.

My skills include copy editing, reporting and packaging stories with photos, graphics and maps to visually represent a concept.
I grew up in Rogers, Arkansas, and graduated with my master’s degree in in journalism in December 2017 from the University of Missouri School of Journalism. I also have a bachelor’s degree in English.
